Bishop’s Appeal for Vocations
The Bishop’s Appeal for Vocations organizes an annual appeal collection, which supplies some of the cost of the expenses for our seminarians, our future priests, in their studies, training, and formation for the priesthood.
- The annual Bishop’s Appeal for Vocations is an integral part for the future of the diocese, and every person is invited to participate in the future of the Church by helping form our future priests.
- Funds for the formation of our seminarians are provided through the annual Bishop’s Appeal for Vocations, endowments and burses (managed through the Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska), and tuition payments from the seminarians.
- This year we have 31 young men in the seminary, including 9 new seminarians, learning from the Master how to lay down their lives, and the Bishop’s Appeal for Vocations supplies the financial support necessary to assist them in this. Since the cost of forming our seminarians is about $1.7 million, this Appeal is an integral part of the future of our Diocese.

The Bishop’s Appeal for Vocations is assisted by laity representing parishes throughout the diocese who desire to promote vocations to the Priesthood and Religious life.
One of the ways they do this is by organizing a “Seminarian of the Week” and “Sister of the Week” in which parishes are invited to pray each week for a particular seminarian studying to become a priest in our diocese, or for one of the novices or postulants studying and working towards final vows in one of the religious orders in the diocese.
