Days of recollection in Hastings, Waverly open to both men and women
(SNR) - The Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW) organizes an annual Ash Wednesday Day of Recollection held at two locations: Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly, and St. Michael Church in Hastings.
Ash Wednesday falls on Feb. 14 this year, and each event will begin with registration at 9 a.m. and close at approximately 3 p.m.
This year, the Day of Recollection at both locations will be open to both women and men. While this annual event began as a day for women, men are now also invited to join in getting a jump-start on Lent.
The day of recollection includes conferences, praying the chaplet, the rosary and stations of the cross, confessions, and Mass with ashes.
The Ash Wednesday recollection at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will be presented by Msgr. Timothy Thorburn, vicar general of the Diocese of Lincoln, on the theme: “The Power of Silence.” The cost for the day at Waverly is $10. Attendees must bring a sack lunch; drinks are provided.
The day of recollection at St. Michael Church in Hastings will be given by Father Jeremy Hazuka, who is the pastor there. The cost to attend is $5, and participants should bring a meatless salad to share at lunch.
There is no advanced registration for either location. Weather cancellation will follow local schools.
The LDCCW is an organization of all Catholic women in the Diocese of Lincoln which pursues projects designed to further spiritual and family life in all parishes and communities in southern Nebraska.
Organized in 1932, the LDCCW has undertaken dozens of projects to fulfill the corporal and spiritual works of mercy as outlined by the Church. More than 27,000 women participate by becoming involved in their parishes and towns in humanitarian, religious, pastoral and educational endeavors.
