WAVERLY (SNR) – Five founding members of the Lay Franciscans of Mary made their promises in the newly organized association under the direction of the Marian Sisters of the Diocese of Lincoln Feb. 11, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.
The ceremony took place in the Marian Sisters Chapel at Marycrest near Waverly.
The Lay Franciscans of Mary are a private association of the laity, promising obedience to the Catholic Church and the Bishop of Lincoln. The Association’s primary purpose is for the sanctification of its members by living a more Christ-like life through a strong sacramental life, personal prayer, and communal support. Mary, the Mediatrix of All Graces, and St. Francis of Assisi are its special patrons. By practicing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, the members strive to evangelize the culture by their works.
