Saunders Catholic Schools to host open forum March 6

WAHOO (SNR) – Saunders Catholic Schools will host an open forum meeting March 6 at 7 p.m. in the Neumann Café, 202 S. Linden, Wahoo.

The Saunders County Catholic schools are Bishop Neumann Jr./Sr. High School in Wahoo, St. Wenceslaus Grade School in Wahoo and St. John Nepomucene Grade School in Weston.

Topics discussed will include an update on the strategic plan and implementation projects, a review of the financial budgets for all three schools, an update on tuition and the announcement of a new annual appeal campaign.

The three schools in Saunders County got their beginning in 1910 with the opening of Wahoo Catholic grade school, which eventually added high school classes, followed by the opening of St. John grade school in 1962 and then the opening of Bishop Neumann High School in 1964.

Bishop Neumann and the grade schools are supported by the generosity of 10 parishes in Saunders County, which has enabled the schools to offer an excellent education and spiritual formation to students at an affordable price. Tuition has consistently been less than 25% of the cost of education over the years; the cost of education is currently an average of $6,600 per student and tuition ranged from $1,275 to $1,675 last year. To meet increases in salaries and expenses, as well as academic program enhancements, the schools are exploring additional funding options and new forms of financial support.

Saunders Catholic Schools educate about 650 students per year and employ more than 100 teachers and staff, making the schools one of the largest employers in Saunders County. Many new families specifically move into the Wahoo area to send their children to Saunders Catholic Schools, due to the schools’ strong academic, spiritual and athletic programs, affordable tuition and the geographic proximity of Wahoo to Lincoln and Omaha. In addition, many alumni and their families move back to the Wahoo area so that their children can attend Saunders Catholic Schools.  Families have recently moved to the Wahoo area from Elkhorn, Omaha and Lincoln, as well as from states like Maine, Ohio and Kansas.

The Saunders Catholic Schools open forum meeting March 6 is open to the public.  For more information contact Bishop Neumann High School at 402-443-4151.
