Annual Red Mass to pray for the legal profession

LINCOLN (SNR) – The Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Diocese of Lincoln invites all to the annual “Red Mass” Thursday, March 22 at 7 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center in Lincoln.

The Red Mass, celebrated by Bishop James Conley, will be followed by a complimentary breakfast reception and presentation by Joshua McCaig, entitled “Extinguishing the Tongues of Fire: A Catholic Response to the Silencing of the Legal Profession.”

The Catholic Lawyers’ Guild of the Diocese of Lincoln is an association for Catholics in the legal profession, seeking to assist members to integrate their Catholic faith in their professional life, to grow spiritually, and to provide a forum for addressing ethical and spiritual questions related to the legal profession in a practical way.

Joshua McCaig is founding president of the Catholic Bar Association, an international lay movement to educate and support Catholic legal professionals to live the faith not just privately but publically within their profession.

Joshua McCaig has appeared on C-Span and has been quoted by the Washington Times, Fox News and U.S. News.  He has been a guest on radio shows including EWTNs Morning Glory and Catholic Connection with Teresa Tomeo.

McCaig is a graduate of the inaugural class of Ave Maria School of Law and Franciscan University of Steubenville, and is a shareholder at Polsinelli, P.C. in Kansas City where he practices health care and intellectual property litigation.

He is also CEO of the National Lawyers Association and Board Chair of the Twelve Rivers Foundation which operates the Language & Catechetical Institute in Austria as an outreach to the Church in Eastern Europe. McCaig works with a variety of organizations on religious liberty related issues with a focus on conscience rights protections.

The Red Mass, instituted in the 13th century and celebrated throughout the United States, is an annual celebration by the Church for judges, legislators, attorneys, government officials, and law students.  Recalling the “tongues of fire” that descended on the Apostles, the celebrants adorn red vestments and pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit for all in the legal field in service to the public and justice.

The Catholic Lawyers Guild and distinguished guests invite the public to join in carrying on this beautiful tradition in Lincoln by participating in the Red Mass.  For more information contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
