Aquinas High presents academic awards

DAVID CITY (SNR) - Aquinas High School in David City presented the academic awards for the 2017-18 school year May 7.

The Once a Week Literary (OWL) Club sponsors an award to a senior who will pursue a higher education and who has shown a four-year advancement and improvement in English. This senior shows promise, dedication, talent, and originality of expression. Teresa Pokorny awarded Brooklyn Stara with the OWL Club Award.

Sinclare Fiala, Daniel Reiter, and Matthew Nadrchal won the Kevin Sloup Spirit Award: exemplifying a sacrificial spirit, loyalty, self-improvement and leadership. Len Sloup presented the Kevin Sloup Spirit Award. 

The Aquinas Athlete of the Year demonstrates using their God-given talents year-round to development as a person and athlete with loyalty, commitment, cooperation leading to athletic success. Ron Mimick presented Tyler Vavrina, Kyle Ruth and Veronica Kobza with the Aquinas Athletes of the Year award.

The Angelic Doctor Award winner is Hannah Moravec, who imitated the school’s patron saint, St. Thomas Aquinas, with the highest academic grade for the present school year. The award was presented by Father Sean Timmerman, chief administrative officer.

The senior who best demonstrated character, attitude, and zeal for the Christian ideal and best exemplified the aims and objectives of Aquinas Catholic is Sarah Juranek. The Cardinal Neuman Award was presented by Father Timmerman.
