National speaker to address New Evangelization in Lincoln

LINCOLN (SNR) - Everyone is invited to St. Michael Parish in Lincoln Monday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. to hear nationally renowned Catholic author and speaker Dr. Edward Sri.

Sponsored by the parish’s evangelism team, Dr. Sri will speak about the New Evangelization and offer insight into the Blessed Mother as Jesus’ perfect disciple.

The first talk, "Walking with Mary: A Biblical Journey from Nazareth to the Cross" will help listeners know and understand the Lord’s mother better. Drawing on themes from his newest book of the same title, Dr. Sri will explore, "the real, human Mary of the Bible and the profound interior journey of faith she made throughout her life."

As the talk progresses, Dr. Sri will delve into the Blessed Mother’s moments of joy, thanksgiving, uncertainty, and trials. He will focus on her profound response of trust and surrender on each step of her journey.

Dr. Sri believes that the clarity gained from understanding the Holy Mother’s response can equip each of us on our own paths of Christian discipleship today.

After a short break, Dr. Sri will return to the podium for "The New Evangelization and the Extraordinary Mission of Our Times." This talk will equip the audience to participate in what the Church calls the "New Evangelization."

"The goal is to help each of us understand more about what the New Evangelization is," explained team member Carolyn May. "It isn’t just knocking on doors!"

Dr. Sri will provide a clear explanation of what it is and how it should shape every Catholic’s life—at home, at work, at the parish and in the world, citing lessons from Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis.

"Everyone is an evangelist, absolutely, as a result of our baptism," Mrs. May said.

She noted that the parish evangelism team is dedicated to developing a parish-wide plan so that they have a year-round strategy for putting the parish work of New Evangelization into practice.

"In order for us to do the parish work, each of us have to understand what it is," reasoned Mrs. May.

Dr. Sri is a well-known expert on the topic. He appears regularly on EWTN broadcasts, and he has visited the diocese on numerous occasions before. He is also the author of several best-selling books and general editor of "Opening the Word," a website and mobile app that provide reflections on Sunday and daily Mass readings.

Currently, Dr. Sri is chancellor and professor of theology and Scripture at the Augustine Institute Master’s Program in Denver, Colorado. He has a doctorate from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

Though Dr. Sri’s appearance is sponsored by Saint Michael parish, Mrs. May hopes that people from other parishes will attend.

"It’s open to everybody," she said.

There is no cost to attend Dr. Sri’s talk. A free-will offering will be taken to help defray costs. For more information, call St. Michael Parish in Lincoln at (402) 328-8480.
