NORTH PLATTE (SNR) – Sue Thayer, former Planned Parenthood clinic director who now works for the pro-life cause, will speak Sept. 26 in North Platte.
She will share her insight into Planned Parenthood’s agenda in "New Business Planned for North Platte. Is There More to Know?" Thursday, Sept. 26 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Quality Inn and Suites, North Platte. The talk is sponsored by Western Nebraska Community for Life.
Pro-life leaders in the community have been meeting for nearly two years since Planned Parenthood announced in the secular media that they were going to set up clinics in six Nebraska towns – including North Platte – to try to make residents aware of Planned Parenthood’s work.
Father Mark Seiker, pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in North Platte, said Thayer recently spoke at a gathering in Grand Island. The Sept. 26 talk, he said, "is another important effort to get good information out to the community about what Planned Parenthood is really about."
"I think others from across the diocese might be interested in coming to North Platte," he said, "or … (inviting) her to come to their towns."
Thayer managed a Planned Parenthood facility in Storm Lake, Iowa, for nearly 18 years until they announced they would be doing webcam abortions at her facility. Up until this time, the facility had not performed abortions.
Ed Rieker of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish said Thayer attempted to communicate with the local doctors about what Planned Parenthood was planning to do, with the idea that the medical community should be knowledgeable in the case of complications from the drugs, etc.
"However," he said, "her efforts were blocked by PP management. She continued to voice her concerns until she was subsequently fired."
After her termination, Thayer led Storm Lake’s first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign at the clinic and the facility closed. Thayer then opened a non-profit Christian pro-life organization, Cornerstone for Life Pregnancy Resource Center.
"Sue will be bringing to North Platte," Reiker said, "her experiences with Planned Parenthood and what they do, what they stand for, their roots and their standard (operating procedures)."
All are welcome to hear the presentation.
