WAVERLY (SNR) - Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will offer a new retreat for couples, “Marriage and Intimacy: How God Wants to Secure Your Love” with Deacon James Keating, Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
The weekend retreat will give married couples input on what intimacy is, how it is attained, times for silence and prayer, times for couple conversation, and times for confession and spiritual direction. Younger couples are encouraged to attend, especially those married 10 years or less.
“As a couple draws closer to one another and to Christ, the fruit of their intimacy is palpable,” said Deacon Keating. “Such intimacy becomes the foundation not for ‘sleepiness’ or lethargy but an ignition for striking out anew and heading into the deep with Christ.
“Christ is eager to help us remain in love with one another,” Deacon Keating continued. “We will explore how we can allow our marriages to be taken up into Christ’s own love for each couple.”
Deacon James Keating, Ph.D., is the director of Theological Formation at the Institute for Priestly Formation in Omaha, and the director of the permanent diaconate program of the Omaha Archdiocese. He is married to Marianne for 31 years and has four children. He is the author of 15 books including, “Spousal Prayer: A Way to Marital Happiness.”
Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House already hosts 14 Engaged Encounter weekends each year on its rolling acreage near Waverly, but it has been many years since they’ve hosted a retreat for married couples. If there is a good response, they will have more couples’ retreats in the future.
