Father Zitek dies at 58

LINCOLN (SNR) – Father Bradley Zitek, a priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, died Feb. 21 at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln. He was 58.

A Lincoln native, Father Zitek was ordained May 27, 1989, by Bishop Glennon Patrick Flavin.

His first assignment was at St. Mary Church in David City. He later served at St. Mary in Nebraska City, St. Peter in Lincoln, Sacred Heart Church in Burchard and St. Anthony Church in Steinauer, St. Vincent de Paul in Seward, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in North Platte, St. Joseph in Superior and Sacred Heart in Nelson. He was most recently pastor of St. James Parish in Cortland.

Bishop James Conley celebrated a funeral Mass Feb. 25 in St. Joseph Church in Lincoln with priests of the Diocese of Lincoln concelebrating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Lincoln.

Father Zitek is survived by his mother Patty, two sisters, nieces and nephews.
