Magnificat Event to Feature ‘Prison Angel’ Mother Antonia Women of All Faiths Invited to June 13 Meal in Lincoln

LINCOLN (SNR) - Magnificat of Lincoln is sponsoring a prayer meal featuring a talk by Mother Antonia Brenner at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 13.

The event will be held at Beacon Hills in the Country Inn and Suites, 5353 N. 27th St., Lincoln. Women of all faiths are invited.

After raising eight children, Californian Mother Antonia received a call in her heart from the Lord to “come follow me” to Mexico, to comfort and serve Christ in the disguise of prisoners. For the past 34 years she has lived in La Mesa Penitentiary in Tijuana where she has become “Madre” (“Mama”) to the poorest of the poor. Through her intense faith and example she brings hope and mercy into the lives of her many “sons and daughters,” as she refers to them.

Mother also provides the mothers, wives and girlfriends of the prisoners with a place to stay while they are visiting their loved ones. A warm and loving home known as Casa Campos de San Miguel, it additionally serves as a place where women reside while in transition from La Mesa prison.

Mother Antonia also founded the Servants of the 11th Hour of St. John Eudes, an order for older women wishing to dedicate their lives more fully in service to others.

Mother has received numerous national and international awards, including the American Academy Achievement Award, the Living Legacy Award from the Women’s International Center, the Annual Award for Distinguished Citizen from the San Diego Bar Association, the National Caring Award from the Caring Institute in Washington, DC and the Bishop Maher Award from Father Joe’s Village.

Mother Antonia has been featured in magazines and periodicals including People, Parade and Readers Digest. In addition, she has appeared nationally on Good Morning America, NBC and on Naomi Judd’s show, Naomi’s New Morning. She has been featured in many Mexican television programs – Univision, Francisco, etc.

Her biography, “The Prison Angel” was released in 2005. It has also been published in Italy and was chosen by Readers Digest as one of the best non-fiction books in 2005 in Portugal and Australia.

To register to attend the event, send a check for $20 to Annette Wemhoff, 931 W. Harvest Rd., Lincoln, NE 68521. The student price is $15. The deadline to register is June 8; no walk-ins, please.
