Professional, Celebrity Bakers Prepare for Fundraiser Proceeds to Benefit Saint Gianna’s Women’s Homes

LINCOLN (SNR) - Throughout the week, dozens of professional bakers and local Catholic “celebrities” have been planning, shopping for ingredients, baking, frosting and decorating for a May 8 fundraiser to benefit Saint Gianna’s Women’s Homes.

“That Takes the Cake… a Frosted Fundraiser,” will be hosted at Pius X High School (6000 A Street) from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will include the pro/celebrity competition, a traditional cake walk, and cake auction featuring cakes donated by many talented amateur bakers. Tickets are $5 per person or $25 per couple at the door, and guests can enjoy free slices of cake with accompanying beverages.

All attendees will have a chance to vote on cakes prepared for the professional and celebrity categories by contributing a dollar bill to each cake’s bank. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Then, via silent auction, each cake will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Tim Brox, proprietor of Gloria Deo Catholic Books & Gifts, was asked to provide a cake for the “celebrity” category.

“...Which I laughed at,” Mr. Brox said.
