Father Milton Thomas Dies at 78

GRAND ISLAND (SNR)- Father Milton A. Thomas, a retired priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, died April 16 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. He was 78.

A rosary was recited April 20 at St. Michael Church in Hastings. Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz was principal celebrant for his funeral Mass of Christian Burial April 21 at St. Michael Church. Priests of the diocese concelebrated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Lincoln. Butler-Volland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Father Thomas was born July 5, 1931 at Brown’s Valley, Minn. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-54. He professed solemn vows with the Crosier Fathers August 28, 1961 and was ordained May 23, 1964 by Bishop Leo Pursley in Fort Wayne, Ind., for the Crosier Fathers.

Father Thomas’s assignment from the Crosiers was an apostolate in the Diocese of Lincoln from 1964-70, where he served in Doniphan and Hastings, and then again from 1986 until his incardination into the Diocese. He also served for the Crosier Fathers in Minnesota and Michigan.

Father Thomas was incardinated into the Diocese of Lincoln in January 2000. At the time of his retirement in 2006, Father Thomas was working in the Tribunal at the Chancery. He then moved to Hastings and the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Father Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. He is survived by a sister Ardis V. O’Banion; brothers Darrell and Walter; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward.
