Pius X Boys’ Bowling Team Wins Second Consecutive State Championship

LINCOLN (SNR) – The boys’ bowling team of Pius X High School in Lincoln recently won their second consecutive state championship by beating Hastings in a 3-2 finale televised on NET.

In the quarterfinals of the bracketed championship, senior Greg Portsche threw three strikes in the 10th frame to knock off Seward in the fifth and deciding Baker game by just one pin. Pius X then beat Blair 3-1 to advance to the final day of competition.

The district and state champion team finished the season with a 13-2 record. Team members include Greg Portsche, Justin Reisdorf, Anthony Inzodda, Drew Miller, Sam Kurtenbach, Derrick Gossard and Nick Shuller.

The Pius X girls’ bowling team finished third in the state championships. The team lost 3-0 to the eventual state champion, Scottsbluff-Gering, in the semi-finals.

For the second straight season the girls completed an undefeated regular season, finishing 10-0. The team members include Heidi Baumert, Kristin Rickets, Brooke Punteney, Liz Campbell, Kaylee Petersen and Jessika Lierz.
