LINCOLN (SNR) – Father Rudolf F. Oborny, 76, a retired priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, died May 14.

Bishop James Conley celebrated a funeral Mass May 18 in St. John the Apostle Church, Lincoln, with priests of the Diocese of Lincoln concelebrating. Burial was at St. Peter Cemetery in Bellwood. Butherus Maser & Love Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born in Columbus, Father Oborny attended Rural Butler County Country School through the third grade and then attended and graduated from St. Mary Grade School David City. He graduated from Aquinas High School David City in 1963.

Father Oborny attended Immaculate Conception Seminary in Conception, Mo., 1963 to 1967, then St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee.

He was ordained a priest May 29, 1971 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. He served as an assistant pastor at St. Wenceslaus Parish in Wahoo, St. John the Apostle in Lincoln, and St. Mary in David City. From 1979 to 1985 he served diocesan missions in Venezuela.

After returning home from South America, Father Oborny was pastor at St. Mary Parish in Davey, St. Patrick in Lincoln, St. John in Lincoln, and St. Wenceslaus in Wahoo. From 2004 to his retirement in 2020, Father Oborny was pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Hebron. He retired to Bonacum House in Lincoln June 15, 2020.

Father Oborny is survived by siblings Charles (Dorothy), Fran (John) Pachta, Louie (RoseAnn), and Jerry (Becky), 10 nieces and nephews, 73 great-nieces and nephews and six great-great nieces and nephews.
