Father Holoubek to present ‘Angels in Christ’s Life, Angels in Our Lives’ Jan. 24-26
WAVERLY (SNR) - Father William Holoubek will offer a weekend retreat for women Jan. 24-26, on the topic of “Angels in Christ’s Life, Angels in Our Lives.”
The retreat will be based on moments in scripture with angels in Christ’s life - when they appeared and what they did for him - especially at the Annunciation, his time in the desert, and during His passion. Then it will look at how the moments parallel and apply in the lives of Christians. The retreat will offer a review of Church teaching about angels, and how people are called to recognize Christ’s presence through the ministry of angels.
Father Holoubek is pastor of St Mary Parish in Sutton and St. Helena Parish in Grafton. He is also director of the Diocesan Mission Office, and assists at Hastings Catholic Schools. His past assignments include St. Joseph in Harvard; St. Joseph in Colon; St. Mary in Cedar Bluffs and St. Michael in Hastings.
Father Holoubek, in his work with the Mission Office, said he learned about the importance of retreats when the people in Kenya said: “Sunday is not enough.”
“If we want to get to know someone in a relationship, especially God, we need specific, dedicated time with that person, Father Holoubek said. “Whenever we leave for retreat, God always shows up! He is so pleased we would give that time, it is showing Him how important He is to us, that we would spend some time trying to get to know him better.”
Now in its 50th anniversary year, Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers an atmosphere of prayer and recollection. The facility includes 50 single rooms, each with a private bath. Each retreat includes meditations by the retreat master, and opportunities for silence, prayer, Eucharistic Adoration and the Sacraments. Retreats typically begin with Mass at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, and end with Mass on Sunday, followed by lunch. The suggested donation for a weekend retreat is $170.
