St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Seward marked the 50th anniversary of the church in a special way Oct. 7.
Bishop James Conley celebrated Mass and consecrated the church’s new altar, part of a multi-year process of remodeling the sanctuary.
He placed relics into the altar: St. Vincent de Paul, St. Teresa of Kolkata (Mother Teresa), Bl. Stanley Rother and St. Zenon.
The remodeling of the sanctuary included a new stone wall and crucifix behind the altar, and a new tabernacle, which was placed in the center of the church. New tile and a new altar railing were installed, as well as all new structures: tabernacle stand, ambo, kneelers, chairs.
The pews were refinished and walls painted. Some new stained glass was installed to complement the existing windows.
The baptismal area in the narthex was remodeled as well, with new tile and a new baptismal font. The risen Christ statue formerly in the sanctuary has been placed in the baptismal area, as well.
The anniversary day also included the school’s annual corn hole tournament, a lunch catered by La Carretas and a reception after Mass catered by Rue6.
