Catholics from across Nebraska are invited to join a two-day pilgrimage celebrating the long-awaited beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, one of the most beloved Catholic evangelists of the 20th century.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly is sponsoring a charter bus pilgrimage Sept. 23–24 to Peoria, Ill., and St. Louis for the historic events surrounding Archbishop Sheen’s beatification. The pilgrimage will be led by Father Gary Coulter, director of the retreat house.

The pilgrimage departs after a 7 a.m. Mass Wednesday, Sept. 23, at St. Michael Church in Lincoln. Pilgrims will first travel to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria for a novena holy hour at the tomb of Archbishop Sheen Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m.

The group will then continue to St. Louis for the beatification Mass Thursday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. at The Dome at America’s Center. Pilgrims are expected to return to Lincoln shortly after midnight on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The estimated cost is $360 per person for double occupancy or $460 for a single room, and includes charter bus transportation, gratuities, overnight hotel, prayers throughout the journey, and two meals per day. Father Coulter will coordinate beatification tickets for the entire pilgrimage group.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, internationally known for his preaching, writings, and pioneering radio and television ministry, inspired millions through his programs “The Catholic Hour” and “Life is Worth Living.”
