The Lincoln Catholic Women’s Athletics Club (CWAC) will begin a volleyball season Oct. 4, and basketball will follow in January.

The league is open to adult women, post-college age and up. Tracie Goodenberger of St. Joseph Parish in Lincoln launched the club this year and encouraged women to participate.

“Single, married, religious – we want you there!” she said. “Even if you just want to come watch, keep score or be the deejay, we would love to have you!”

The CWAC exists to build authentic community through athletics—giving women a place to compete, have fun, form friendships, and grow together in faith.

“Evangelization happens through relationship,” Goodenberger said, “and sometimes, those relationships begin on the court!”

Open gym sessions will be held Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. at the St. Joseph School gymnasium in Lincoln. The dates are Oct. 4 and 18 and Nov. 1 and 15. A tournament will be held Sunday, Dec. 6 from 1 to 5 p.m.

A basketball season will follow, with open gym sessions on Saturdays in January and February, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. It will conclude with the second annual tournament Saturday, March 6, from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Goodenberger said competition varies by the week. Some weeks we keep score; other weeks they do not.

“Tournament time is a different story,” she said. “It gets competitive! Trash talking is prohibited, but highly confident cheers are encouraged!”

Women may simply show up to open gym days, but Goodenberger recommends those interested join a GroupMe chat so organizers know how many people are coming and can plan accordingly, to make sure everyone gets playing time.

The volleyball and basketball tournaments will require registration. Participants can create a team, be placed on a team, or tag along with a friend and be placed together. Tournament registration will be sent out at the beginning of each season. For more information or to be added to the GroupMe, email This email address is being protected from spambots. Goodenberger added that the club is looking for sponsors, volunteer coordinators and referees this year.

“Please email me if you’re interested in helping!” she said. “And hey, Rebekah Allick and John Cook, if you’re reading this—we’d love for you to stop by and coach us anytime! We promise to be very coachable… mostly!”
