Free-will offering will support dental-medical mission in Haiti
LINCOLN (SNR) - Dr. Mary Healy will speak at St. Joseph Parish, 1940 S. 77th St., Lincoln, Monday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
Dr. Mary Healy is associate professor of Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit and senior fellow at the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, she earned an master’s in theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville and a doctorate in biblical theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Dr. Healy is co-editor of the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture, a series of commentaries that interpret Scripture from the heart of the Church, and author of several books including “The Gospel of Mark (Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture)” and “Men and Women Are from Eden.”
Dr. Healy is a member of the Pentecostal-Catholic International Dialogue sponsored by the Vatican, and she speaks nationally and internationally on topics related to Scripture, the theology of the body, and the spiritual life. Her talk for the Sept. 15 event is, “Turning the World Upside-Down and the Church Inside-Out.”
Through Pope Francis, she said, God is calling the whole church to reach out to others with the good news of Christ.
“As we seek to carry out the call, there is no better place to look for guidance than the Acts of the Apostles—a book that gives us not only ancient history, but also the blueprint for the life and mission of the Church today.”
The talk will show how Catholics today, like the early disciples, can be renewed in the Holy Spirit and equipped to respond to the call to the New Evangelization.
Dr. Healy’s books and CDs will be available to purchase during the event.
A free-will offering will be taken up for the support of the dental-medical mission in Haiti sponsored by St. Joseph Parish.
Free babysitting is also available. For more information, call 402-483-2288.
