LINCOLN (SNR/PX) - Pius X High School in Lincoln is participating in a global philanthropy effort known as “Giving Tuesday” Dec. 1, with funds designated to be used toward the school’s growing marching band.
In the “Giving Tuesday” event – so named to follow Black Friday, Small Business Tuesday and Cyber Monday – charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world are encouraged to come together for the common purpose of celebrating generosity and to give back.
Funds raised on Giving Tuesday will be used toward the purchase 175 new band and concert uniforms for Pius X High School. Pius X’s highest enrollment ever – more than 1,200 students – has meant a shortfall of matching and presentable uniforms for the award-winning band program.
Band director Jared Wilhem said the “average life of a marching band uniform is 10 years, and we are now in our 11th year of using the current uniforms.”
More than 140 students participate in band at Pius X. In addition to the marching and concert bands, Pius X also has two jazz bands and two pep bands, and more than 33% of Pius X students participate in music class.
Those interested may support Pius X by donating, safely and securely, online at www.piusxdonatenow.net or by texting BAND to 71777. Gifts may also be sent to Pius X High School, 6000 A St., Lincoln, NE 68510. Note: If writing a check please make it payable to Pius X Band.
