Retired priest Msgr. Pohl dies at 89 in Lincoln

LINCOLN (SNR) – Monsignor Daniel J. Pohl, a retired priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, died Dec. 27. He was 89.

Bishop James Conley celebrated a funeral Mass Dec. 31 in the Cathedral of the Risen Christ with priests of the Diocese of Lincoln concelebrating. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, David City. Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Msgr. Pohl was born and raised in David City, and ordained in 1953. Prior to his ordination, he served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. Msgr. Pohl served as the first superintendent at Lourdes Central High School in Nebraska City, and was also superintendent at St. Cecilia High School in Hastings. He served as pastor in parishes across the diocese, including Brainard, Bruno, Cheney, Friend, Indianola, Lincoln, Paul, Roseland, Rulo.

Msgr. Pohl is survived by nieces and nephews.
