Participants will walk 9 miles from St. Mary Church in St. Mary, to St. Andrew Church in Tecumseh, mostly on gravel roads. All pilgrimage walkers will be given a map and water will be distributed along the journey.
At St. Andrew Church, Mass will be celebrated at 5:15 p.m., followed by a Mexican meal of burritos, tacos, fruit cups and horchata (rice milk).
Children making the pilgrimage walk may participate in carnival games after the meal. Featured games include a cake walk, duck ponds and a bean bag throw.
Those physically unable to join in the walk may participate in prayer, the Mass and dinner. Shuttles will be available at St. Andrew Church at 12:15 p.m. to take pilgrimage walkers to the starting point at St. Mary Church.
Free-will donations for the pilgrimage walk, meal, and carnival will be accepted. Proceeds will go toward a scholarship for a student’s tuition at St. Andrew School.
A pilgrimage is similar to a retreat, a time away from the regular routine and a time to concentrate on the spiritual life without distractions. It’s a time of prayer of special intention or a prayers of thanksgiving for blessings received. In addition to prayer, a pilgrimage may be a time of meditation, learning and enrichment.
Any and all are invited to participate in the spiritual journey.
Those who would like to sign up for the Pilgrimage Walk may call Father Craig Clinch at 402-335-3742 or Kathi Mercure at 402-432-6678.
