Benefit concert May 16 at Cathedral in Lincoln

LINCOLN (SNR) – The St. Cecilia Choir of Cathedral of the Risen Christ School in Lincoln will hold its second bi-annual “St. Jude Benefit Concert” at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Tuesday, May 16 at 7 p.m.

The concert is held to raise money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee.

The St. Cecilia choir, comprised of middle-school students, wanted to hold a concert that would allow their music to benefit a greater cause. They will team up with two choirs from Pius X High School in Lincoln to raise money for children suffering from illnesses.

“Two years ago, when we had this event, we raised a fair amount for St. Jude,” said music teacher Jessica Ligon, “but we were only a third full. The choir wants to see the church packed!”

During the concert, free-will donations will be accepted to benefit families seeking treatment at St. Jude Hospital.

In 2015, a family whose child was treated at St. Jude came to the concert to voice their appreciation for the support. Dr. Michael Meagher, vice president of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, also attended to show their gratitude.
