WAVERLY (SNR) - Men and women of all ages are invited to a weekend retreat Sept. 15-17 with Father Thomas Dunavan, entitled “Saints for Today.”
The retreat will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly.
“Every year there are newly canonized saints, given to us by the Church, which are upheld as models for us,” Father Dunavan said. He hopes the retreatants will see the connection of how the lives of the saints have meaning for all members of the Church and point toward heaven.
“The lives of the saints have relevance to touch our lives today,” he said. “They are a help to us on our journey, an inspiration to us, and their prayers assist us.”
Father Dunavan noted the importance of retreats while reflecting on the recent Gospel reading where Jesus said to St. Peter, “For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father (Mt; 16:17).”
“Without prayer,” Father Dunavan said, “without this time with the Father who reveals his Son, we cannot come to know Jesus, hear his voice, or experience his love.”
Father Dunavan has been ordained 19 years and is pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Falls City, and chief administrative officer of Sacred Heart School. He previously served in Tecumseh and St. Mary.
Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House provides a place of refuge and solitude, a place of renewal and conversion, a place to converse with God Who is truly present. The Retreat House is also blessed to have regular retreat masters, priests of the diocese who generously give of their time away from their parish to lead a retreat.
