LINCOLN, PIUS X – Pius X High School in Lincoln participated in a city-wide food drive sponsored by the Food Bank of Lincoln. Among the local high schools, Pius donated the most, more than 19,000 pounds of food, which went to Catholic Social Services.
The food bank calculated the donation as equal to 13.3 meals donated, per Pius student.
For donating the most food, the school received the Food Bank’s trophy, a giant fork, for the fifth year in a row. Pius also received a cash award, and donated 25% of the award to Father Christopher Kubat, executive director of CSS, for the organization’s sack lunch program.
Eight local schools participated in the drive and collected 26,710 pounds or 22,781 meals.
Pius Student Council sponsors Susan Kelly and Brianna Golka thanked the Pius students who participated, as well as the Catholic grade schools who donated items.
“We especially thank St. Patrick and Sacred Heart (schools),” Kelly said.
