Parish celebrates hometown patroness

LINCOLN (SNR) – Members of at Cristo Rey Parish in Lincoln celebrated the feast of St. Gertrude Nov. 16 with great joy and reverence.

More than 200 people attended an evening Mass and meal held afterward in the parish hall. Pastor Father Ramon Decaen said many of the founding members of Cristo Rey Parish are from the town of Villa Juarez, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

“The people of this small town have a great devotion to St. Gertrude,” he explained. “In fact, the parish in Villa Juarez is named after her.”

Preparation for the feast began with a novena which was prayed every night in homes and at the parish.

Cristo Rey Parish in Lincoln was formally established in 2002 and serves more than 800 families.
