A holy hour for vocations was held Friday, May 22 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center in Lincoln, to pray for Deacon Peter Foley and Deacon Bradley Moss. Bishop James Conley presided and Father Benjamin Holdren preached. Bishop Emeritus Fabian Bruskewitz was also in attendance.

The May 20 daily Mass at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ School in Lincoln was celebrated for sixth-grader Mila Nguyen, who was hospitalized in Omaha from March 28 to May 13. The story of Mila’s miraculous recovery was featured in the May 1 issue of the Southern Nebraska Register. She will participate in outpatient treatment as she continues to recover. Mila was able to attend the May 20 Mass with her family, and her classmates welcomed her back and presented a scrapbook they made for her while she was away.

Bishop James Conley celebrated the 9 a.m. Mass on Pentecost Sunday, May 24, at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. The Mass was David Schmidt’s final as principal organist at the Cathedral, a position he has held since 1991. He played nearly 47 years at the Cathedral.

Bishop James Conley celebrated the Red Mass for legal professionals May 4 at St. Mary Church in downtown Lincoln. Father Daniel Rayer was homilist and Father Gary Coulter concelebrated. The Mass was followed by a breakfast and presentation, sponsored by the Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Diocese of Lincoln. Presenters were Andrew Pease, general counsel for the Diocese of Lincoln, and Tom Venzor, executive director of the Nebraska Catholic Conference.

Jubilarians included Sr. Ana Maria Solis, O.S.F., 70 years; Sr. Collette Bruskewitz, O.S.F., 70 years; Sr. Clare Sullivan, M.S., 65 years; Sr. Karen Eden, M.S., 55 years; Sr. Joan Henderson, F.S.G.M., 25 years.

The evening was arranged by men of the parish with assistant pastor Father Augustine Reimers, to help build community by providing opportunities for parishioners to meet one other. Bishop James Conley visited Blessed Sacrament School in Lincoln May 1 for the school’s May crowning celebration. During a procession before Mass, students carried flowers to be placed at a statue of Mary. Bishop Conley celebrated Mass with pastor Father Michael Morin and assistant pastor Father Augustine Reimers concelebrating. Bishop Conley later visited classrooms in the school, where the children recited poems, sang songs, and presented him with cards and spiritual bouquets.
