The Nebraska Walk for Life was held Jan. 31 in downtown Lincoln. The Walk was preceded by a Mass in St. Mary Church, celebrated by Archbishop Michael McGovern of Omaha and Bishop Joseph Hanefeldt of Grand Island. The keynote speaker for the Walk was Nick Freitas.

Bishop James Conley presided at a holy hour in the Cathedral of the Risen Christ Monday, Jan. 26. The holy hour, “Light the Night,” is an annual event sponsored by the Diocesan Edu-cation Office to begin Catholic Schools Week in the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln.

Students from St. Peter Elementary and Pius X High School in Lincoln provided music, and priests were available to hear confessions.

Bishop James Conley presided at an ecumenical worship service at the St. John XXIII Diocesan Center in Lincoln Jan. 19. The event, “Light from Light for Light,” was held in honor of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Jan. 18-25. The candlelight service of prayer, Scripture and fellowship was held in collaboration with Protestant and Orthodox leaders, hosted by More Mercy, a Catholic apostolate in Lincoln. The initiative’s goal is to “Restore Christian unity through Truth and Love.”

Bishop James Conley celebrated the Mass of the Americas Dec. 12 in the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. The Mass was one of 12 nationwide Masses this year as part of “Project Guadalupe 2031” and in celebration of the Jubilee Year of Hope. Composed by Frank La Rocca, the Mass of the Americas is a unity Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception commissioned by Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone of San Francisco. It uses texts in Spanish, English, Latin and Nahuatl.
