Clean-up day held at Sisters’ new property

By Leigh Calfee

NEBRASKA CITY (SNR) – More than 30 friends and neighbors joined the Franciscan Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Nebraska City Nov. 17 for their initial motherhouse property clean-up day.

The Sisters, who serve the Nebraska City area, recently purchased a 10-acre parcel of land just north of Arbor Lodge State Park, and are moving forward with their desire to build a motherhouse and ministry center on the new site. The motherhouse will provide a permanent home for them and be conducive to vocational growth with the hope of ensuring a long-lasting presence.

The ministry center will offer a faith-enriched environment for those seeking a quiet place to nourish their prayer life and grow more intimately in love with Jesus. Sister Kathleen gave the “grand tour” of the property sharing the community’s vision with those who assisted in the clean-up.

Volunteers came from Lincoln, Louisville, Avoca, Dunbar, Julian and the Nebraska City area. Students from Lourdes Central Catholic also offered their services.
