‘Family, Become What You Are’ Nov. 13-14
Southern Nebraska Register
Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will hold a retreat for married couples, Nov. 13-14.
The retreat, themed “Family, Become What You Are,” will invite couples to explore the meaning and mission of their marriage through practical guidance, prayer together and private conversation.
The retreat will be led by the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in the Family (MHSF) and Father Benjamin Holdren. MHSF is a Catholic apostolate dedicated to igniting holy marriages and reclaiming a new normal for families that will enact real and lasting change in the world.
The retreat will offer time for fellowship, as well as silent periods to reflect on retreat talks. There will also be Mass, adoration and confession. The goal is to meet couples at different stages of marriage and prioritize time together at the retreat.
Chance and Lora Unger are founders of MHSF. They said the retreat is an invitation for both husband and wife to have the time and space set aside for intimacy, reflection, prayer and encouragement. The retreat aims for couples to better understand the meaning and impact of their marriage, which is a profound and great mystery to the Church and the world.
Couples do not need to be a part of MHSF to join this retreat. The 24-hour retreat offers overnight and commuter options, with meals included in both. Couples attending as commuters will also be assigned a room for breaks and private discussions. Due to the nature of in-person activities and times for discussion between spouses, there is no online option for this retreat.
The retreat starts Friday, Nov. 13, with 5 p.m. check-in and supper at 6 p.m. It ends Saturday, Nov. 14, with departure by 4:30 p.m.
