St. Ann, Doniphan

PCCW Activities

  • New member reception, funeral dinners, Altar Server appreciation dinner,
  • Cleaning of the Altar Server surplices and cassocks and Acolyte Albs,
  • Cleaning and decorating the Sanctuary,
  • CCD/CYO support, ordering of votive and 7-day candles,
  • Annual cleaning of the Church, and organizing any Church celebration

Historical Highlights

  • St. Ann in Doniphan was established in 1888.  The first church was built in 1889.  The church currently in use was built in 1967.
  • St. Ann’s was served by the Crosier Fathers in Hastings from 1942-2000.
  • On May 21, 1994, Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz ordained a native parish member, Father John Sullivan.  The parish also had a young lady join the FOCUS campus ministry in 2012, Jennifer Dinan.
  • The Knights of Columbus Council #11824 was formed in 1996.  The parish has had an active Altar Society in effect for a number of years.
  • The Parish purchased a Rectory in 2002 for the resident Pastor.  Our resident pastor is shared with Sacred Heart in Kenesaw.
  • The current church had a new parish hall, CCD/CYO classrooms, and a kitchen added on in 2004 with the dedication in 2005.

St. Joseph, Harvard

PCCW Activities

  • Pay for candles, altar wine, bread and linens
  • Supply vestments and cassocks
  • Aid work and projects of CCD and LDCCW
  • Sever funeral dinners, clean church

Historical Highlights

  • The first Catholic settlers in Harvard had Mass in their homes beginning in 1874.
  • The first church was on the present site from 1893 to 1927.
  • After a fire, a brick church was built in 1928.  Renovations over the years included bell towers, high altars, and antique angels.
  • Marion hall was built in 1958.
  • In 2005-2006 the roof was replaced and interior renovated, including new altars.

St. Cecilia, Hastings

PCCW Activities

  • Serve funeral dinners, coffee and rolls after Mass on the 1st Sunday of the month
  • Receptions for 1st Communion and Confirmation
  • Clean the church, take care of the hall
  • Support annual LDCCW Diaper drive and Catholic Social Services
  • Serve pie at the K.C. fish fry, serve dinners and receptions, fund raisers for the Altar Society

Historical Highlights

  • March 25, 1878, marked the beginning of St. Cecilia parish in Hastings, Nebraska.
  • A frame church was completed in the spring of 1879. 
  • The present church was built and dedicated on December 22, 1912.
  • On July 7th, 1940, services were held to re-dedicate the interior beautification of St. Cecilia’s church.
  • In 1964, a new high school, gymnasium, convent, and rectory were erected.
  • In 1978 a parish hall was built during the parish’s centennial year.
  • From 1995-1996, the church was extensively renovated and redecorated, including the choir loft and a new pipe organ.
  • In 2007 the project of extending and renovating Centennial Hall began, blessed on our Feast Day November 22, 2008 by Bishop Bruskewitz. 

St. Michael, Hastings

PCCW Activities

  • Buy altar breads, wine, and candles
  • Upkeep of vestments and kitchen and sacristy laundry
  • Provide funeral dinners for deceased members' families
  • Hold coffee & rolls the first Sunday of the Month from October-May.
  • Hold an annual Salad Luncheon the first Monday in May, had an annual soup supper
  • Provide a reception for First Communicants and Confirmands and their families
  • Support seminarians and religious in formation, especially those from our own parish
  • Take our turn serving a lunch for Sermons A-La-Carte during Lent at St. Mark's Pro Cathedral in Hastings
  • Present baptismal gown to infants
  • Undertake having a church directory made every five years
  • Help the pastor financially with needed parish projects

Historical Highlights

  • In May 1941 St. Cecilia parish in Hastings purchased a Congregational church building and grounds in southwest Hastings.
  • It was renovated and St. Michael Church was dedicated on Oct. 30, 1941 as a chapel of convenience for the parishioners.
  • On Jan. 25, 1945 Bishop Kucera erected the new parish of St. Michael.
  • A parish rectory was built and blessed Dec. 19, 1948.
  • A new school was dedicated on Aug. 22, 1954.
  • In 1966 new parish boundaries were established for the two Hastings parishes, and it was decided to build on a new site in northwest Hastings.
  • The new St. Michael Church was dedicated June 16, 1968.
  • In 1972 the former rectory and convent were sold a new rectory built at the new site.  The old church was razed the following year.
  • A parish Rejuvenation Project began in 2021: redesigning the sanctuary, replacing flooring, repainting church; reconstructed main altar, ambo, and altar of repose; tabernacle refinished, sanctuary touched up, new statuary added.

     

Sacred Heart, Kenesaw

PCCW Activities

  • Host and serve meals and receptions for events: 1st Communion, World Marriage Day/St. Valentines, Fall BBQ, & Christmas Dinner
  • Clean the Church and Hall monthly
  • Support the Bishop’s Project, LDCCW President’s project, Diaper Drive and Catholic Social Services
  • Serve funeral dinners
  • Maintain an active Prayer Chain
  • Serve cake and ice cream for birthdays at Haven Home in Kenesaw
  • Collect Baby items in Dec. for donation to CSS
  • Support local events such as Kenesaw Post Prom
  • Volunteer at Red Cross Blood Mobile and provide food

Historical Highlights

  • Sacred Heart church was originally built in the early 1900’s. Aside from upgrades and general upkeep, the building remains nearly the same as it was when first constructed.
  • 1990’s - Siding was added. Storm windows were installed for the protection of the stained glass windows. Air Conditioning was added.
  • 2007 - Front railings and handicap ramp were added
  • 2010 - New Church Hall completed.
  • 2013 - Sunday School is offered for young parishioners for the first time in Sacred Heart's history.
  • 2014 - Installation of new church carpet

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Roseland (Juniata)

PCCW Activities

Historical Highlights

  • 1883: Frame church built, parish named Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
  • 1884: The Assumption Cemetery was established
  • 1887: First rectory was built.
  • 1900: Assumption School completed in 1900
  • 1903: Brick Church dedicated Oct. 28, seating 500, cost $16,000. 
  • 1910: Two-story frame rectory was built.
  • 1919: Brick church destroyed by fire on Nov. 20
  • 1920: Mar.17, Bishop O’Reilly divided Assumption Parish, south part Sacred Heart.
  • 1922: June 15, 3rd church structure, dedicated. 75 families financially supported the church and three room school with an attendance of 100 children.
  • 1939: Assumption Parish Hall constructed by members of the parish.
  • 1945: Oct. 19, brick church destroyed by fire, Parish Masses held at Assumption Parish Hall
  • 1951: Fourth church costing $94,000 was completed and dedicated.
  • 1955: Brick convent built for the school teaching Sisters.
  • 1963: Assumption became mission of Sacred Heart Parish, Roseland.
  • 1983: Celebrated centennial with membership at 165.
  • 1989: Knights of Columbus Council 10155 was organized on Oct. 10.
  • 2004: Sanctuary was remodeled, church recarpeted, Msgr. Ivan Vap made altar
  • 2008: May, Cemetery Arch and Prayer Garden completed
  • 2013: New Heating & Air Conditioning added to Church

St. Mary, Sutton

PCCW Activities

  • Clean the church and take care of the hall
  • Serve funeral meals; coffee and rolls after Mass on Sundays
  • Deliver meals for new parents and ill members of the parish
  • Hold receptions for 1st Communion, Confirmation and Graduation
  • Volunteer for the backpack program and local Bread Box
  • Teach CCD classes; Support diaper drives and food collections
  • Host fundraisers, including bake sales, horse sales and garage sales
  • First Friday Adoration and Saturday Morning Holy Hour

Historical Highlights

  • In 1871 the first Mass was offered near Sutton for eight men working for the railroad.
  • By 1879, due to the increase of Catholics in the area, a second Church was constructed of wood and dedicated in honor of the Immaculate Conception by Bishop O’Connor.
  • Somewhere in the early-mid 1900’s the name was for unknown reasons shortened to "St. Mary" but is still officially the Immaculate Conception Parish and Church.
  • The Church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception was dedicated by Bishop Tihen and opened on December 8, 1911.
  • In 2013 a new parish hall was built.
