PCCW Activities

  • Meet 9 times a year, on the fourth Tuesday of the month
  • Serve and provide desserts and salads for funeral luncheons; serve Confirmation reception
  • Maintain adoration candles for the parish
  • Clean and maintain the Altar linens, surplices, and cassocks
  • Provide financial assistance for the parish
  • Partner with the Knights of Columbus for fish frys and hamburger feeds
  • Host annual homemade Christmas bake sale on Gaudete Sunday

St. Michael, Lincoln

PCCW Activities

Historical Highlights

  • St. Michael celebrated its Centennial with a Mass at the original site in Cheney on May 23,2009.
  • The first spade full of dirt was turned on January 8, 1909 for a 30x50 foot wooden building that was to become St. Michael of Cheney Station.
  • The First Mass was held on May 23, 1909. Monies to help build the church came from the Catholic Church Extension Society who approved a grant of $500.00 for a church in Cheney, Nebraska.
  • On September 29,1972, the parish built a social hall across the street. Then 13 years later, August 24, 1985 the dedication of the addition that was the church was held. In February 1986, the old church was used for a controlled burn by the Bennett and Southeast rural Fire Districts.
  • For 90 years the church was a mission parish. The first rectory was started April 30, 2000 by Msgr James Dawson.
  • In December 2006, land was purchased south of Yankee Hill Road, between 70th and 84th street to build the first St. Michael Catholic School. That school opened September 2011 with grades Kindergarten thru 6th grade.
  • In the fall of 2014, we have started fundraising for a new church to be added to the existing school building, looking to the future for our growing parish.

St. Patrick, Lincoln

PCCW Activities

  • Wrapping silverware and volunteering for the annual St. Patrick Festival in March.
  • Sell carnations every Mother’s Day for Birthright.
  • Annual garage sale in June.
  • Cleaning the rectory every June.
  • Making new altar linens for the new church.
  • Participating in the annual Diaper Drive for LDCCW
  • Annual cookie sale in December.

Historical Highlights

  • St. Patrick’s parish was established in 1893 by Father Peter Welling, O.F.M.
  • The small congregation in Havelock built a church there that they enjoyed for fifteen years but lost to a fire in April of 1908.
  • Plans for a new church building were immediately made, and in November of 1908, the cornerstone was laid for the building that would be St. Patrick’s church for the next 107 years.
  • In 1914, when the parish no longer needed mission services, the Franciscan Fathers turned the parish over to the Lincoln diocese.
  • Classrooms were built in the upper story of the church building, and in 1916 St. Patrick’s School opened its doors for the first time.
  • After closing the school and almost losing the church during the Great Depression, the Franciscan Fathers took the parish on again in 1940.
  • In 1961, a new school building was constructed.
  • The Lincoln diocese took the parish on again in 1972.
  • An addition to the elementary building was built in 1985, and a gymnasium was added in 1998.
  • The long-awaited new church building was dedicated on the feast of the Assumption, August 15, 2015.

St. Teresa, Lincoln

PCCW Activities

  • The Altar Society meets 8 times a years on the first Wednesday of the month.
  • The ladies care for the altar needs, flowers for the sanctuary, serve funeral dinners, host coffee and donuts once a month after Sunday Mass.
  • They assist with the parish bazaar, host the Bishop’s annual Appreciation Dinner for the Sisters, and sponsor the Advent Giving Wreath collection each advent.
  • They assist women of the parish making retreats by paying half the cost, and assist with bed-making at the Waverly Retreat House.

Historical Highlights

  • St. Teresa parish in Lincoln was established in 1926. It originally covered the area bounded by O Street and South Street, from 27th Street to the eastern city limits.
  • In the mid 1970’s, St. Joseph’s Parish was created, cutting St. Teresa’s in half at approximately 56th Street.
  • The parish operates St. Teresa School, pre-K through 8th Grade, maintains a Convent, and has a Thrift Shop in the older part of the School
  • Some of the major events in our parish calendar year include a Corpus Christi procession each June from St. Teresa’s Church to the Pink Sisters on So. Cotner Blvd, a parish picnic on October 1st, the feast of St. Teresa, and the annual Bazaar and Spaghetti Supper in November.
  • The parish also sponsors a Marian Mass and Candlelight Rosary Procession each September at the Waverly Retreat Center grounds.
