Historical Highlights

  • The first church building was built near Arapahoe in 1879 and was made of sod.
  • Six years later a wood frame church was built in Arapahoe and dedicated as St. Germanus Catholic Church.
  • Since 1888 the church has been a mission; first of Orleans, Oxford, and now a mission of Cambridge.
  • The Our Lady of Fatima Shrine was built by Fr. Henry Denis who was a prisoner of the Nazis party between 1933 to 1945.
  • He promised to build a Shrine in Honor of the Virgin Mary, which was completed in 1956.
  • In recent years many additions and improvements have been added to the Shrine.  In 1999 a statue in honor of unborn children was added, of Rachel kneeling in prayer, cradling an empty blanket, weeping for a society bereaved of its children yet looking to God for forgiveness and healing.
  • The St. Germanus Our Lady of Fatima Shrine is a Pilgrimage Site, and visitors receive a Partial Indulgence, during the Year for Consecrated Life, from Nov. 23, 2014 to Feb. 2, 2016.

Historical Highlights

  • The first church was constructed in 1883.
  • It was replaced with a brick church in 1897.
  • The current church was built and dedicated in 1972.
  • The parish hall was constructed in 1967, and the present rectory was built in the 1980's.

St. Catherine, Indianola

PCCW Activities

  • Making blankets for all the newly baptized of the parish.
  • Giving a unique wedding gift to couples who marry in the church
  • Collecting Baby items for the local pregnancy center during Advent.
  • Providing Christmas plates to the homebound and elderly of the community
  • Holding an annual festival which draws together the parish and others of the community
  • Organizing and promoting the annual community Life Chain.
  • Donating funds to a variety of local, state, national and international charities.

Historical Highlights

  • The Catholic Parish began as a mission in 1880.
  • The first church was built in 1883 and dedicated to St. Virgilius.
  • Between 1905-1910 the name of the church was changed to Sacred Heart.
  • The parish was renamed St. Catherine of Alexandria when the current church was dedicated October 13, 1927.
  • The church is well known for its magnificent high altar as well as the breathtaking stained glass windows.
  • The parish serves those in Indianola, Bartley, Danbury and Lebanon and the surrounding countryside.  
  • The parish hall hosts not only its own activities but a variety of community events, including blood drives, health fairs, and the annual Southwest Senior Breakfast, just to name a few.

Sacred Heart (Hayes Center), McCook

Historical Highlights

  • Sacred Heart Church of rural Hayes County, located 10 miles southeast of Hayes Center, was established in 1887, by many whose descendants still attend the Church today.
  • The majority of people in this part of the country were of Czech background. The vicinity was referred to as Tasov, at the request of Father Maly after his native town Tasov, Moravia.
  • Later, in 1908, it was changed to Sacred Heart by the Oblate priests from McCook, who started serving the parish. 
  • Before 1908, Czech speaking priests came from Wilber or Milligan to offer mass in someone's home. on these rare occasions, perhaps twice a year, they also baptized children and performed marriages. Many of the priests walked the many miles from Elsie or Wallace, where they had gone by train, and then to McCook to take a train back east. 
  • Today Sacred Heart is a mission church of Saint Patrick's of McCook.
  • In 2012 Sacred Heart celebrated its 125th Anniversary.

St. Patrick, McCook

PCCW Activities

  • Provide salads once a month for a community meal for the needy 
  • First Friday adoration each month 
  • Provide and serve meal for annual Fall Festival which raises money to support the school. 
  • Run a thrift store (Bargain Bazaar) which supports the parish, school and community 
  • Deliver cookie & fruit trays to the shut ins of the parish at Christmas 
  • Provide a crucifix to family of deceased parishioners 
  • Bishop Conley conducted a Women's Retreat for southwest Nebraska at St. Patrick's 
  • Prepare food and work in parish food booth at Red Willow county fair 
  • Hosted Father Kilcawley who spoke about Internet safety for young people
  • Promote and participate in Life Chain and Right to Life rummage sale

Historical Highlights

  • The parish started in 1882 and was served by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate
  • In the late 1980's diocesan priests started serving the parish. 
  • The parish supports an elementary school (preschool through 8th grade)

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, North Platte

PCCW (Daughters of Charity) Activities

  • Serves funeral dinners, serves receptions for 1st Communion, Confirmation, those received into the Church at the Easter Vigil, and Divine Mercy Sunday.
  • Coffee and rolls after Sunday Masses, and Coffee and desserts after Saturday evening Masses.
  • January annual Parish Buffet Dinner to celebrate the feast of St Elizabeth Ann Seton. 
  • March dessert auction for our annual fund raiser.
  • October Diaper Drive and the Advent Baby Shower.
  • Donate to St. Gianna House, Spirit Radio, and the Pink Sisters.
  • Make prayer blankets for members of the community who are ill.
  • Purchase all the Altar candles and votive candles.

Historical Highlights

  • St Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish was established on June 13, 1994.
  • Masses were held in the cafeteria of the Mid-Plains Vocational Technical College from August 21, 1994 until March 24, 1996, when the first Mass was prayed in the new Parish Hall.
  • The new Rectory and Parish Office was built in 2001.
  • Our new Church was dedicated on Sunday, October 2, 2011.
