Men urged to deepen relationship with God Nov. 20- 22 through Exercises of St. Ignatius

Southern Nebraska Register

Men seeking to deepen their relationship with Christ are invited to a retreat Nov. 20–22 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly: “Preached Spiritual Exercises for Men with Traditional Latin Mass.”

The retreat will be led by Father Joseph Faulkner.

The weekend is based on the Spiritual Exercise of St. Ignatius. Retreatants will hear the great drama of Salvation History starting at the Fall of Man to Redemption. Men will be invited to meet Jesus Christ as the solution to trials and tribulations to struggles in the external and internal life.

“Most people, when they hear ‘Ignatian Retreat,” picture what we call a directed retreat: where the participants just do their own silent meditations and talk it over once a day with a spiritual director,” Father Faulkner said. “But there are also ‘preached Ignatian retreats,’ where the retreat master gives a series of talks about the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, exposing them to the spirituality of the saint, but without full regimen of quiet hours meditating on Scripture alone. This retreat follows the ‘preached’ model, with the Sacraments being offered in the 1962 Form (TLM).”

This silent retreat will include preached meditations, time for silent prayer, scripture, Eucharistic Adoration and opportunities to receive sacraments.

The retreat begins Friday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. with the first meditation. Retreatants have the option to come early for 5:30 low Mass, and need to bring their own supper. The retreat will conclude Sunday, Nov. 22, with Mass and lunch.
