Homework Outline
This class starts with the Third Commandment, defining why Christians celebrate the Lord’s Day on Sunday rather than the Jewish Sabbath on Saturday, with insight into why the Church has the authority to determine this. The positive elements of participating at Mass and the value of the Holy Mass are then discussed, in addition to a brief review of the Holy Days of Obligation. The Fourth Commandment looks at duties of children toward their parents, but then broadens to society and their country. In the context of social justice it then examines attitudes toward our “social family” through prejudice and racism. Finally, duties toward our “global family” are discussed, including the reasons for immigration, along with the plight of migrants and refugees. Articles and a CRS refugee simulation give students a deeper insight into the challenges to be considered in forming attitudes and responses to immigration. A homework outline is provided for student notes.
