Homework Outline
This class is the first of three to examine the Sixth and Ninth Commandments on the nature of human sexuality. It presents an overview and study of the theology of marriage. After identifying the four types of love (storge, philia, eros, agape) and recognizing the love and unity of the Trinity as the foundation for marriage, the four components of true marriage are identified: free, total, faithful and fruitful. The value and necessity of marriage for the stability of society and children is further developed. This is followed by a careful examination of homosexuality and the distinction between supporting a person vs. approving a lifestyle and the challenges this entails. This leads to a reflection on the consequences of redefining marriage and concludes with the moral implications of such a proposition. A homework outline is provided for student notes.
