Homework Outline
This class focuses on the Eighth Commandment by addressing the value of truth and honesty, while looking at various aberrations of truth. The opening concepts look at the value of one’s good name and how examples of living heroic virtue and integrity inspire the hearts of others. Pilate’s question to Jesus, “What is truth?” reminds all of us that we can be misled or undervalue truth. Topics that relate to being truthful are then examined, such as mental reservation, calumny, detraction/gossip, rash judgment, custody of the senses, etc. The class concludes with the important question of what value we place on our good name and to what extent we will strive to preserve it. A homework outline is provided for student notes.
