This class considers the Greek empire under the leadership of Alexander the Great, and later, Ptolemy and Seleucus, among others. It discusses the Jewish response to being forced to accept Greek culture and religion under the reign of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Finally, the Maccabees' role in leading the Jewish revolt is considered as a critical point in Jewish history before the coming of Christ.
