This class begins the course study of the New Testament. After the success of the Maccabees, this class considers the role of the Hasmonean Dynasty led by Hycanus. Next, the Pharisees and Sadducees are discussed as religious leaders who are in conflict with one another. Their conflict and eventual civil war leads to Roman intervention and conquest. Finally, this class discusses the role of Herod the Great and his leadership under the Roman occupation.
